Women’s Fashions of the Forties

Fashion for women took an unusual turn in the l940’s. The war had a great impact on women’s fashions. Most of the 2 piece suits women wore were very drab in color. They were usually a tan, black, olive green, brown, etc.

There is a very good reason for this. The suits were  recycled from the men’s suits. The war caused a great financial burden on the government and since the men had been recruited to go to war, it became s simple solution. After all, the men had no need for suits during the war.

The suits were simply recut and redesigned into suits for women. And the large shoulder pad became part of the package.Next time you look at family photos during this time, check out the women’s clothing.
